Types of Financial Aid

Grants: money that is given usually based on financial need. Does not need to be repaid.

Loans: money borrowed either through the federal government or a private lender. Must be repaid.

Scholarships: money awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, athletic or special ability, religious affiliation, ethnic background, special interests, organization memberships, or random drawings. Do not need to be repaid.

Work Study: a federal program that funds part-time jobs on or off campus during college. Many work study jobs are very flexible with class schedules and some allow you to work on homework during downtime!

FAFSA: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

This is available online at fafsa.ed.gov starting October 1st till June 30th if you intend to enroll in college for the 2017/2018 school year.

This must be completed for any of the above types of financial aid to be awarded!
